I wanted to announce, there are no more OLED upgrade kits available, and at this time, there are no plans for additional kits.

UPDATE - I have a new source of the ‘inverted background’ LCD to go along with the black OLED text displays, so we can offer the OLED upgrade package now without worry. I do need to know how many are definitely interested so I can place the order for these displays. The upgrade kit comprises of the five 2x40 text OLEDs, one of the ‘black’ LCD center displays, and five 6 mm plexiglas covers for the new text displays. Price remains at $270/250 Euros plus any tax where necessary. There will also be a labor charge of 100 Euros + VAT for EU orders if you prefer not to have it done yourself. Please send me your interest to info@johnbowen.com so I can determine how many I need to order.

Thanks,
John Bowen

We currently have over 50 of brand new “old’ LCD screens, and will continue to provide them as spares if anyone wants. Over the last 7 years, I've only had 2 people request one.

I was wondering if the inverted background center LCD comes with the $250 upgrade kit, or is it a modification to the existing LCD display ?
It’s a different LCD, replacing the one there, and it is included in the $250 upgrade package.

Hi,

Hi all,

I'd like to say that I'm very happy with the OLED screens, as they add exactly what I was expecting:

- a very fast response time. With traditional LEDs, when you manipulate an encoder the representation of the value gets a little blurry and you have to wait a few ms before being able to read it. With the OLED, the screen is crisp anytime, it's much faster for the eyes to catch the value, and for the combination of the hand and the eye to reach a targeted value.

- a better viewing angle: I had to raise the solaris on top of a thick keyboard, making it higher and thus lowering the angle between my eyes and the screens. With the LEDs it would have dim the display. Not so with the OLED, whatever the angle, the display is crisp.

I could compare with the central, traditional LED screen.

Cheers,

Stéphane

Here’s a finished white front panel Solaris with the OLEDs and new black background center LCD:

The screen refresh may not be the issue....since the Solaris does not have any program memory on board, scrolling through patches means the computer has to go out to the CF card and pull the names in, one at a time. If you have a newer version of the OS (1.4.3 is the current one), you will find things are faster. We are now loading preset names into a large buffer the first time a bank is selected, so when you scroll through them, it polls the buffer, not the card.

OH YESSSSS!!! Looks lovely!!!!!

Can't wait to order - in for one set as soon as you're ready to go, John!

How is the screen refresh - as quick (or faster?) than the LED in scrolling through patch name characters, for example?

Oh I see... you must find an almost pin to pin compatible solution

Synthwalker,

The connectors are wrong on this display, and would require a brand new display PCB be created for the Solaris.

Was wondering if this kind of LED display should fit for the main screen...
