Re: Automating the Solaris using cubase?

Could this work? http://ctrlr.org/ It appears as if this could allow me to design a template for controlling the Solaris, and it can appear as a VST within cubase (or any other DAW for that matter). I'll dig in a bit deeper before i start - just to make sure this could indeed do the trick. If it can...

Re: Automating the Solaris using cubase?

Now i'm triple shocked  So, basically what i should ask myself now is would i change my DAW (after learning it for quite some time) if i want to automate Solaris? This is not a Solaris issue. ANY synth that uses NRPN's would have issues with Cubase. That's why i wrote - in the quote above - ...

Re: Automating the Solaris using cubase?

Ok. I've just read this discussion: http://www.cubase.net/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=129545&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0 If i understand corretly, they say there's a known bug in Cubase when recieving NRPN, but not when sending NRPN (and that discussion was about an older version of Cuba...

Re: Automating the Solaris using cubase?

Hi! First of all - a big thanks for taking the time to explain the proccess in depth, though there are some things i still don't fully understand. As a side note, as easy as it might seem - i'm still a bit shocked that what one must do in order to work with NRPN's is sit back, relax, and take out hi...

Re: Automating the Solaris using cubase?

You have to put the CC99 first then follow it with the NRPN each time you want to send a controlling value. That's the part i don't understand. What does it mean to "follow it with the NRPN..."? Where do i "punch in" the NRPN number, specifically for the parameter i want to auto...

Re: Automating the Solaris using cubase?

Yes, as I mentioned, each parameter has to be identified before the value is sent. If you didn't see a CC99 or CC98, then no parameter was being defined, and therefore, the incoming data is affecting the most recent parameter. There's actually 4 entries we seem to be needing: the parameter identifi...

Re: Automating the Solaris using cubase?

http://home.roadrunner.com/~jgglatt/tutr/rpn.htm I've read this, and i sort of can't believe my eyes. Is this what i need to do now if i want to do something basic like automate the filter cutoff? Start calculating numbers, and then converting them from decimal to binary and then to Hexadecimal? lo...

Re: Automating the Solaris using cubase?

Looks like there might be a couple of issues all specific to Cubase & the Solaris. I will have to get it and see what is wrong. What version seems to be THE version to run? One of you has v5.1, the other v7... John b. Hi John. I think that as with the midi issues that i had before (and were res...

wrong screen...?

This happens from time to time. I go to one screen, but the parameters belong to another screen: http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/ll150/zahush76/2013-07-01001157_zps3207ce00.jpg In this instance i'm at the system screen, with the arp parameters. Also, notice that it is synced to cubase - but shows ...

Re: Automating the Solaris using cubase?

The problem with using CC numbers was that there's not enough (0-127) to handle the 1250+ parameters in the Solaris. I'm not sure if we could implement a double layer of commands - use the standard CCs for the basic things, as well as NRPNs at the same time, but you would think it should be possibl...

Automating the Solaris using cubase?

Hi everyone. I'm trying to figure out how to automate Solaris using my DAW, which is cubase 5.1 I've never worked with NRPN's and i haven't got a clue how to do that step by step. I looked up the cubase manual - and NRPN's aren't even metioned on the index. On some other forum, someone wasn't even s...

Re: Solaris and automation?

All parameters are available as NRPN. NRPN_Ctrl_List.txt.zip You can read more about NRPN at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NRPN and http://www.philrees.co.uk/nrpnq.htm john b. Hi. While trying to understand how this works - i went thru the list of parameters that can be controlled using NRPN's (pg 6...

Re: Solaris receives midi in and goes crazy

John Bowen wrote:I wonder if Cubase treats USB MIDI differently than via the MIDI interface you have?
Nope. I tried using an alesis q49 controller via usb - connected directly to my pc. Cubase recognized it, and it worked perfect (although, obviously, it's a controller. not a synth which also needs to be controlled)

Re: Solaris receives midi in and goes crazy

Also, SendArp must be set to Off. This only works when the Arpeggiator is running, which needs the local keyboard connected to the sound engine. Perhaps this is the one thing that you need to change? Huh! Mazal Tov! That did the trick. LocalOff when turned "on" doesn't send anything when ...
