Re: Breath Control

Oh, that is it! Thank you. I knew it was something basic. I misunderstood. That makes perfect sense. That also explains why I thought it was flaky... Some sounds the VCA level was less than 100% and so "it worked". In others, it was at 100% and "didn't work". I still can't get it...

Re: Breath Control

And today, I can't make CC9 or breath work. I hope it is that I am missing something very basic. By way of documenting what I am doing: RME MIDI out to Solaris MIDI in (no USB) Mainstage sends patch change to Solaris Adjust patch so that VCA1: Source1 = "Breath"; Amount = "0" or ...

Re: Breath Control

No, I had it set to 100%, figuring that meant 100% modulation. I'll give that a try. Thanks! Still not sure why CC9 would work then - I had that set to 100% also.... Lots of things to learn. It is a wonderful instrument, and I know this is just teething stuff as I learn how to optimize it and my rig.

Re: Breath Control

Switching to a physical MIDI port makes CC7 (Volume) work as expected. CC7 has no effect over USB, so there is definitely a difference between USB and MIDI jack for incoming MIDI where CC7 is concerned. Changing to a physical port makes no difference for Breath Control (CC2). I can't seem to modulat...

Re: Breath Control

I used this MIDI monitor: http://www.snoize.com/MIDIMonitor/ to check that Mainstage is indeed sending out either BC or Vol messages as configured in Mainstage. Mainstage is doing what I expect, but I can't get the Bowen to react in any interesting ways to Breath. I also can't get it to see MIDI Vol...

Breath Control

Has anyone successfully used Breath Control with the Solaris? I am trying to control the VCA with it. I can't make the VCA do anything. Same as with the expression pedal. I can route the breath control to CC1, and then observe its effect on pitch in the oscillator section, but I have not had success...

Re: Solaris Loses midi connection

I am seeing the same thing in Mainstage. At some point the Solaris no longer responds to patch changes, but I still see the MIDI show up from the keyboard and pitch/mod wheels. MIDI panic doesn't solve the issue. A reboot of the Solaris does. I am OSX 10.9.2 and Mainstage 3.03 (both most current ver...

Re: Expression Pedal for Solaris

To close the loop: 1) The Expression/Pedal1 input definitely serves as a modulation source. I set it to modulate LinFM and Pitch successfully. A standard 10k Ohm expression pedal works fine. The expression pedal should be wired "reversed" - that is with the ring and wiper being the in/out ...

Re: Expression Pedal for Solaris

John, I think I know why the zippering is occurring for me on CC11 - it is my controller map. I wanted a curve that was much flatter for much of the travel and then tapered significantly at the "zero" end of the pedal (a modified exponential curve - flatter at one end than the other. This ...

Re: Expression Pedal for Solaris

John, If I use Mainstage to transform CC11 to CC7 (MIDI Volume), there is no change in output on the Solaris through any of its outputs. I'm sure I could map it like CC11, but I can save a transform and just use CC11. I'm not sure that a MIDI volume pedal will do anything without CC mapping in the S...

Re: Expression Pedal for Solaris

Yes, that does it. Expression pedal >>controller keyboard>>Mainstage. The controller keyboard inverts the MIDI numbers for CC11 (127==0; 0==127). Mainstage applies a mapping curve, then passes that into the Solaris as CC1. Send Solaris CC1 to a Lag Processor. Route Lag processor to VCA modulation se...

Re: Expression Pedal for Solaris

OK, I have this sorted. The key information is that the measurement is taken between the ring and sleeve. Inside my pedal, I reversed the tip and ring wires, and everything worked as soon as I enabled the Expression pedal in the Home menu. One thing I noticed is that there is some scratchiness as I ...

Re: Expression Pedal for Solaris

I believe this pedal defaults to "tip-to-wiper" for contacts. I've tried it fully inserted and also pulled out to the first "notch" to disconnect the tip. I can measure 4+ V at the end of the TRS cable coming from the Solaris with the positive terminal of the meter on the tip and...

Re: Expression Pedal for Solaris

I can confirm that a sustain pedal works fine in the Sustain pedal jack. I turn SusPed1 to "Sustain", set polarity to "-" and I am in business. I notice that there is a SusPedal2 in the menu, but no jack for that on the back. It is currently "Off" in my sample patch.

Re: Expression Pedal for Solaris

John, I did the Home page setup. On pg 2/4, I set the "ExpPed" parameter to " Expr". Changing the polarity has no effect. I also went to VCA1 and set Pedal 1 to modulate the VCA by 100%, figuring that might also be necessary. This has had no effect on the sound. Am I missing some...
