Hello all,
Long time reader and first post, I'm very impressed by the solaris sonic approach and on the German waiting list for next wave.
I know Solaris is a programmer tool and I will invest time and efforts to build my own patches (I'm not really comfortable to start from scratch on my current synths to be honest tough).
Is it plan to have even more sound designers on board to create solaris unique sounds ? I see John and several talented people have already started, creating an exchange community (I will do it when possible) or inviting some experts on this field will stimulate solaris people around the world (even some banks are not free) !
Thanks a lot !
:D

I always find that the best approach is to spend time understanding what the programmers have done. Already, you have a wide range of sounds at your disposal, so there is plenty to learn.

Thanks Francois, thanks for you feedback, indeed the best to learn is to try to reproduce a sound and not always reaching by chance something, you are right.

I've checked a bit the manual and there are 5 banks to start with, my comment was mainly to ask if professional sound designers are planned to join Solaris by creating sound sets in the future (take a look at Waldorf site for example).

By the way there is a discussion on amazona.de about Solaris presets and some people are very "disappointed " and have giving up the buying (of course they also say "never take as basis presets to judge a synth...". On my side I'm very impressed by some demos around but to hear more from average joe users/sound manglers as I am ! I'm not Hans Zimmer -;(

I have seen a lot of commentary about so-called "disappointment" and I have also noticed that it is usually the *same* people on the Sony site, the Beyerdynamic site, and others, and ... all the gear "disappoints" these purists. The other aspect is that synths *are* judged in large part by presets and not by possibilities: we live in an instant gratification mentality (look at Roland's Jupiter 80). Of course, none of these commentators apparently has the stature of a Hans Zimmer or other well known over-achiever so it would be hard to take their assessments as materially significant. I think that the greatness of a synthesizer comes out over time - and this too is unfortunate --- for example, the CS80 lost out to many other synths --- now those keyboards fetch moderate prices while the value of the CS80 has soared to 25K!!! So it is with time folks recognize the greatness. One other element is that when an instrument has been used on a "production" and that becomes known, that then makes a huge difference too! It's about marketing.

My own view is that the SOLARIS is a deep instrument and offers incredible fast access to sound sculpture --- I am also interested in *performance* and I think this instrument will do well there too.

I am awaiting delivery of my instrument so I am not focused on how good the presets might be right now since I want to design my own patches.

Cheers!

It would be nice if someone does ! !
