Independently pannable voices for Solaris ?

Post by synthvince »

Hi John. Fantastic synth concept you have here. Can't wait to check Solaris out
once it becomes available. I like your front panel design as well, very cool 8)

Will each voice be independently pannable ? {as on Prophet VS & Oberheim
OB-X / OB-Xa / OB-8 / Matrix 12..} Would love to see that feature implemented
via the internal synth architecture as it adds tremendous animation to the
sound in modern music stereo-based settings.

Cheers,
Vince

Hi,

This is usually a function of having discreet analog voice components, wherein you can specifically assign a voice to an output (or panned output). In software systems, the voice count depends on the number of DSP chips and code size, and all the panning and so on is done at an earlier stage within the code structure. (Also, any FX follow the panned sections, as they are treated more like 'global' sound processors.)

I'd have to ask my coders if this kind of placement assignment per voice could be done in an efficient way (or at all) before responding accurately on this suggestion. (Maybe if the FX were bypassed??)

Thanks for your input!

Just to chime in... each of the paths has a VCA. And each of the VCA's has PAN control. So from a simplistic view, wouldn't it be true that there is already pan control... albeit limitted to the total of 4, as in 4 VCA's available for pan modulation... ?
