Expression pedal mapping

It would be nice if the expression pedal could be a modulation source for more things such as filter cutoffs and envelope attack times.

Aaahhhh another good idea - I use this function a lot on the Kurzweil to great effect.

Yep, here as well on a Virus TI. I often use the foot pedal (MIDI CC #4) to repeat the modulation of the mod wheel or some other modulation (like applying some ring modulation), which is useful for accenting notes while playing with both hands.

Yes, a good idea! For now, you have to rig up one of the CC controllers (CC1-5) to do it, but it takes a bit of work.

Any hint how to do this? Setting CC1 to 4, 7 or 11 didn't cause the desired result. And even if, it required to decouple the pedal from the main volume.

What exactly did you set up for modulations? I'll see if I can test here...

I chose an Init patch, plain square wave from oscillator 1.
I use a Yamaha FC7 pedal connected to the Solaris.
I set it to expression and + polarity.
=> The Solaris responds accordingly by turning the volume down.
=> The MIDI monitor software tells me the Solaris sends MIDI CC 04 (foot pedal). Great so far.
I assign CC1 a value of »4«, the controller number the Solaris sends out.
I turn down EG amount and cutoff of the lowpass filter.
I set CC1 as a modulation source for the filter cutoff at 100%.
=> The pedal still behaves as a volume controller.
=> The pedal does not raise the filter's cutoff.
=> It also does not work on the oscillator's pitch.

Frankly, I didn't even expect it to work this way, but I thought I should give it a try :) .

Hi,

I would like to do exactly the same thing (use an Expression Pedal to control Filter CutOff), is this possible in the end ?

You can also just use Pedal1 in the Mod Sources lists since this is the Expression Pedal. We will rename the 2 pedal entries in the Mod Source lists in a future OS update, so to make it more clear.

Thanks John - this clears things up for me and adds a new dimension to the Solaris that I was unaware of. I am now doing crazy Edgar Winter filter sweeps and pitch bends with my expression pedal!

Jim has renamed the pedals in the Mod Source Lists. This will happen with the next OS release.
