Re: 100th post and some news from Aodyo

Ah, you are involved with that one? It looks quite interesting. Is it all built on the Mutable Instruments modules’ code? I had some communication with her about using such things for the Solaris, but the code conversion to SHARC DSPs seemed to be too problematic.

Re: Solaris as a (basic) sampler?

I will have to investigate what it would take to add a basic sampling function to the Solaris. Never say never!

Re: Sample pools in OS 2.x

Thanks for the helpful response. A few comments....I don't understand why the engineer that coded the audio file handling couldn't just take the wav files and strip the metadata out in the code and then play it. It is certainly straightforward and there are numerous public domain code resources (au...

Re: Sample pools in OS 2.x

Oh, and last thing is to be able to handle stereo sample files. Kluging up a solution with panning multiple oscillators is a bit odd and inconvenient not to mention, as you have, the phasing issues that might arise. I don’t see how it can be done without using 2 voices, since the Solaris structure ...

Re: Sample pools in OS 2.x

So, last question first - what I learned about playing back .wav files - the Solaris can play them back already, but the way the code was done plays back all the data in the file, which includes the metadata tag. For a few samples, I could hear a tiny ‘click’, and when I asked the coding engineer at...

Re: Sample pools in OS 2.x

Another thing to know - as I stated above, you can freely edit the SamplePool text file using your computer (and a CF card reader, of course). You can change the low and high key values right there in the text file, so if you’d like a sample to be ‘key windowed’, just set the low and high values in ...

Re: Sample pools in OS 2.x

My apologies for any confusion regarding the change in how the samples are handled. This was actually changed in the 1.4.3 OS, which is described here: https://forums.johnbowen.com/viewtopic.php?t=16758). A preset can now load a sample pool when the preset is called up. This is determined by the set...

Re: Is ratcheting important to you?

John, Jim, since ratcheting is about the seq, is there any chance that you implement what's now known under the name "Voice Component Modelling", i.e. using multiple internal seqs in keystep mode to slightly modulate parameters per voice as discussed here?: https://forums.johnbowen.com/vi...

Re: Is ratcheting important to you?

Glad you mention things already done - the control lanes are now separate, and there’s a new, single Note lane. There’s also modulation provided in a couple of ways, just as you suggested! There’s still some work to be done on the new functions, so that’s why I was wondering what else to add, such a...

Is ratcheting important to you?

Dear Solaris Owners, Jim is working on some improvements to the Sequencer in the Solaris. There’s already some fun things in the works, and now I am wondering if it’s worthwhile to add a ratcheting function to each step, so I thought I’d post it here to get your responses. What do you think? John B.

Re: opposite of Note

Keep in mind that you have the oscillators still tracking the keyboard, so adding a negative note will add (subtract) from the oscillator tracking. I’ve just set up a patch that tunes Osc 1 & 2 to unison at the top of the keyboard ( C-7), then detunes Osc 2 as I play down. Here’s the settings us...

Re: opposite of Note

I just applied a negative initial amount to a filter cutoff in full resonance using Note, and after setting Key Track to 0%, the cutoff does indeed track downward as I play up the keyboard. Is this not what you want?

RIP Jimmy V.

I know many of you here are aware of the many posts and contributions a fellow Solaris owner known as Jimmy V. (as well as dawman or several others) has made to the Solaris community. I just got news that he has passed away! I met Jimmy when I went to Las Vegas to make a ‘service call’ on his Solari...

Re: Solaris Expander Announced

@john Bowen. Hey John. I purchased the rack expander and I don’t own a Solaris keyboard. I’ve done a lot of programming, am familiar with sysex coding and I’ve also programmed an additive synth on the reason platform named Spectra. My plan was to develop a software controller for the rack expander ...
