Re: New review in Sound on Sound magazine

I'm not as sure about the advertising connection with front cover appearances, at least in SOS's case. I think they were uncertain if it was going to be finished in time for the June issue, so they had something else already designed, etc. Also note that Keys magazine (a German publication) had a v...

Re: New review in Sound on Sound magazine / COVER PAGE

Hi, If you look at previous covers, or, in fact, covers on *any* magazine, you will find that they all have one thing in common: gear on the cover is gear that is advertised and has been advertised monthly within the magazine itself by the vendor. Gear *not* on the cover is gear that does not advert...

Re: notable celebrity seal of approval for Solaris!

I think it is a great idea to get a SOLARIS over to others too, like Jordan Rudess - famous people will drive open market awareness, sales and, for us who are waiting, sales means future features are more likely to be delivered. However, I think once you get to about 3 to 6 units out there, and once...

Re: Other synths you like.....

Yep - we both have a lot of gear!!! But from what I can see, nowadays, I think your sell decisions are good except for the MidiBoard ... I think that is still a superb keyboard unless you have the VAX77. The Fizmo, K5000 and Polyevolver (much as I like DSI) can go. I would recommend the Kyma (if you...

Re: Announce when you receive your Solaris!

The CS80 does take special care and it is overhead - but the Chroma compares really well to it also, especially with the poly pressure addon by Chris Borman on the Chroma site. You can find my older CS80 videos on Youtube as Galaxiesmerge CS80 --- I have not found another synth that gets that tone. ...

Re: Announce when you receive your Solaris!

WOhoOO!!!!! I am *so* looking forward to getting my SOLARIS TOO!!!! I just got my CHROMA ENABLER from Randel Osborne --- what a great job he did!!! Total real-time control for the Rhodes (ARP) Chroma. I know that only one other keyboard is going to be up to the task of playing with it and my CS80 an...

John: I also don’t know what you mean by ‘draft effect’; please explain. Sorry " analog drift " , VCO random and living I Wish much, I am very happy to be its future owner. 8) Yes - I think that randomization of parameters in small amounts will give a very, very organic feel --- I have be...

Re: Solaris Factory Preset info

Thanks Francois, thanks for you feedback, indeed the best to learn is to try to reproduce a sound and not always reaching by chance something, you are right. I've checked a bit the manual and there are 5 banks to start with, my comment was mainly to ask if professional sound designers are planned t...

Re: Wish List For Next firmware update 2012

I've not even received the board yet but of course I already have a half baked opinion. So take with a pinch of salt! I'm not so fussed about multi-sampling, there are a ton of synths hard and soft that major on that (although if its on the list far be it from me to get it taken off). Once you've g...

Hello all... first of two reviews of the SOLARIS on our magazine site, this one by David K., who already has his unit (obviously), and there will be additional review by me once I get mine in the "pending" production batch for Feb. 2012. SEE: http://musicindustrynewswire.com/2012/01/31/mi...

Re: Wish List For Next firmware update 2012

Well, we did discuss a multisample object for the WAV Osc type - I will have to discuss again next time I’m back there (which is soon). With multisampling, there is a lot that this will add to SOLARIS. Count my vote in on this. I would rather have multi-sampling that anything else if we are to have...

SOLARIS EXPANDER / EXPANSION - WISH :)

This is my own very personal wish list: A SOLARIS external, 1U Rackmount hardware expander where I can control all the functions through the SOLARIS panel interface. I would at least TRIPLE the number of DSP SHARCS --- so, I believe the SOLARIS uses 6 SHARCS, I would add a box with 18-SHARCS (that w...

Re: Future Features - KEYBOARD INTELLIGENCE? Filters & Natur

Thanks lotus-eater. The other thing about instruments that makes them special is the variances and the ability to never have the *exactly* and *precisely* the same sound. To do that, you would need keyboard-intelligence as follows: each note would have to generate random value that would function th...

Re: Future Features - KEYBOARD INTELLIGENCE?

Hi John, The DK-Synergy had tracking portamento and I have written some Smalltalk code in Kyma (not a fair comparison) to do this. I am, first and foremost, a *player* in that it is in playing and most specifically in *performance* that music comes alive and breathes. So most of my requests are for ...
