Tutorial videos

Post by John Bowen »

Hi All!

I'm creating some introductory Solaris videos, with the first one showing the basic oscillator types. You can view all of them here:

Let me know what you think!
cheers,
john b.

I'm blown away by the vastness of Solaris, this tutorial is really helpful in showing the sonic choices we will have at our fingertips, our imagination being our only limitation.

I think this video and the one's to follow will help a lot of people who have been on the fence come to a decision
Time to start thinking about hiring more employees for the production line john.

Yes, as you've previously said, some type of pop filter on the mic would be a good idea for future tutorials. :)

Very Nice,

I have been waiting to see the hardware providing the options that are unavailable in the DSP/Software version.
Noise, S & H are new to me in the MultiMode Osc.
VS Osc. looks to be some more great tones too.
Having the ability to run 4 x Solaris Oscillators is downright scary....

Thanks, I am feverish for the Filters video....

Love the video- I feel like I'm back at NAMM but without the sax player in the background! I agree with the suggestion for the POP filter.

Also, a couple of things to request (beg for? dream about?) for later:

-Yamaha CS-80, OB-X/OB-8 oscillator emulations

-an "OSC slop" kind of feature (yeah, I know we can assign a random LFO, but it would be nice)

-another similar feature where each Voice (as opposed to the 4 individual osc per Voice) as a whole can be slightly out of tune with each other, in a controllable fashion

I was playing with the step sequencer today, using the "Key Step" mode. This advances through each step based on note-on events. With small variations for each step value, and routed to each osc at very small mod amounts, you can get a 'pseudo-random but controlled' result along the lines of what you're thinking. Still not perfect, but it's one way to get there.

Well, the Solaris is obviously a very big box to try to think outside of!!!

I was at 68%, 77%, 88%, 91%, 94%............100%...then a still finishing comment.
I must have looged while you were downloading it.. 8)

Just started...thanks.

4:16 seconds of appreciated torture.
Lots more controls than 5.0 DSP version.
I can hardly wait to taste it.

Buenissimo.

I heard from someone the voice overdub for the Rotors section was way too loud - sorry 'bout that! I'll try to watch things for more consistency - haven't done these kinds of videos for many years!

Thanks for the video John.
From where do you dial the mod sources in the video ?
Is it one of the knobs at the venter LCD ?
cheers Stardust

It's the alpha knob on the right or the Inc/Dec buttons above it that I am using much of the time. It's mostly because I want a clear view of the displays for the videos, and I feel my hand gets in the way.
Once you have touched/slightly moved any knob, the data entry on the right is active for that particular parameter.

thanks a lot for the videos, john!
while i can watch the first two perfectly, all the others show just a black screen/box after pressing the play button. the progress bar at the bottom moves slowly from left to right, but no movie and no sound.
have you done something differently after the second video?

but don't let me stop you from working on the solaris - if the resolution of this issue would take too long, just ignore my issue! :)
there won't be anything like the REAL solaris anyway...
tnx
