How do I globally activate the sustain pedal? I can do it on individual patches but is there a way to have it active as the global default?

There's no way to globally activate it. If the sound designer stored the Sustain pedal as Sustain, then the patch will have it, as you noted. The only thing globally is the polarity of the foot pedals - this is stored in the Global init file, which is saved from the System page. Your CF card stores this file, and some of the units left the factory with the foot pedals programmed to have the polarities Off.

For patches that don't have sustain programmed, you do have to change this and store on a per patch basis.
