Is it safe to assume that in the OS Folder, I’m seeing copies of the doFlash and OS files, and those with a “.” followed by a “___” are for Mac?
I also just upgraded, followed instructions by copying over the new file, renaming it, and putting a 1 in the doFlash txt. file.
It rebooted but I’m seeing the version as 1.30.
Does this mean I did something incorrectly?

Perhaps it will change again on next reboot.

It’s been a while but does the current version show itself on the boot up screen, or is there a way to view this in the System MIDI Page?

Thanks

I had trouble with updating due to Mac usage as well. I think I had to edit the suffix of the doflash file as OSX changes it to .rtf instead of .txt. Change it back to .txt and it should work..

I’m not using Mac though, Windows 8.1.
No hurry to upgrade to Windows 10.
Hate fixing a system that already works.

Here’s my issue with OS Upgrade this time.

I’m suppose to replace the OS file with the new file.

Here’s my screenshot of the working 1.31 version.

I really get confused by instructions when I read them.

For example, do I change the compressed files name in the downloaded decompressed folder first before sending it to CF Card.
Do I drag and drop or copy?
Which OS File gets deleted on the Card, one or both?
Do I delete those before I copy, or before I drag and drop, or do I just overwrite them before I copy or drag and drop?

I need specific instructions from download, unzip, to whatever step is next.
I went through ---- last time.
Don’t mind having to do it again as I have to reboot a few times a night during shows.
The sustain thing has been a thorn.

So please, anyone wanting to give EXACT steps without me having to guess would be appreciated.

Ankyu

Jimmy,

All you really need in your OS Folder on the CF Card is a file named ‘solarisos.raw’. If you want the OS to automatically install when you turn on the synth, then you can keep the text file called ‘doFlash.txt’ and edit it so that the number is 1. Otherwise, I just hold down the Enter button when I boot up, and wait for the special menu to appear, and select option #1 (as explained in the User Guide section, “Updating the Operating System” in the Quick Start explanations).

So, here’s a list of the order to do things:

1) Download the .zip file
2) unzip the file
3) change the name from 'solarisos_v1.4.0.2.raw' to ‘solarisos.raw’
4) drag and drop this file into your OS folder, overwriting the old one
5) If you want to auto-load the OS, open the ‘doFlash.txt’ file and change the 0 to a 1
6) remove the CF card from your computer, stick it in the Solaris, and boot up the synth

If you changed the ‘doFlash.txt’ file to a 1, then the Solaris should automatically start the OS loading process. Once it is done (just watch the screen), it will tell you to reboot.

That’s it!

Cheers,
John

p.s. you don’t need the single quotes for the file names

Yes, all you need is a text file that has only a number in it. The number is 1 if you want to auto-load the OS, and after the Solaris does that, it will automatically change the text file to a 0. The file has to be named ‘doFlash.txt’.

Cool.
IIRC the drag and drop might have been what made it work the last time.

Thanks JB and best wishes to you and your family, and happy gigging..

Well here’s what finally worked.

Tried 6 more times, step by step, inch by inch using txt. 1 and txt. 0, then hitting enter after boot to try manually.
No joy.

Then my memory served me well.
I had 2 OS Files on my Card because I left out .raw on the name to get 1.31 to work.
Left out .raw on the name, used 1 in txt. file, then watched as it grabbed the OS from CF Card.
Asked to reboot and did so.
Home Screen Page 4 says 1.40. .2.

Guess mine is one of the very first units and has a little quirk.

Everything is fine.
No more sustain when switching presets.

Happy Camper..

Ankyu.

PS. Odd I have to leave out .raw

Maybe because I use so many .raw samples......???

Who cares right.

Hmmm, that REALLY does not make sense! I’ve NEVER heard of needing to leave off the .raw extension for the OS to load. I am going to ask how that could possibly work.

My guess :
- Windows was set to hide known extension files.
- Then he generated a solaris.raw.raw file ony seeing solaris.raw
- When he decided to remove the fake ".raw" extension, he made a true solaris.raw file...

Ah, that’s a good explanation. I don’t use Windows, so I’m unfamiliar with the possibilities.
Thanks for the heads up!

I’m just glad it works.
The synth has always been a great performer.
I like using Solaris to blend/control a Roland D-05 Module.

Ribbons, Joystick, ModWh all dialed in, Solaris presets send a matching prom chng message.
Some presets are just one synth.
The presets using both synths are pretty amazing as each compliments each other.

So nice having Ribbon MIDI 16/17 now.

Cheers, go make music....

I’ve had a number of requests to make these VT and AT Curves global, because of wanting to just set the response to their controller, and keep it there. I’m sorry if you were using this parameter per preset a lot - I can understand the uses in both situations.

Maybe I will discuss with Jim more about this....
